I agree, capturing skills is challenging. I disagree with your whine for the following reasons

1. You should have gotten those "common" skills before you decided to use the "spamming" style of capture. I agree that spamming is currently the only way to get stances reliably, that display bug is being fixed

2. You can carry more than one SoC, so you dont have to worry about "cooldown"

3. There are many more bosses with the skills you want out there now. Just because some really cool guy did the work of putting up a website guide for you doesnt mean thats the ONLY way to capture that skill

For all the times you've been SoC hunting and been frustrated, you will jump up dance, freak out your dog and scare your neighbor when a boss with a skill you want spawns right next to a zoneline "swirly".

Whats that mean? Sometimes its hard...sometimes its really really easy.

I think it simply shouldn't capture skills you already have, that is quite useless. But capturing weak skills that you didn't want is a legitimate casualty, at least you have a new skill and you wouldn't capture it again if they fixed it.

@Bazooka

Well arena.net took my feedback and they have revamped the skill capture. Apparently you can now target the dead boss and choose which skills you want captured. So quit whining about my suggestion.

The only thing about the new way to capture, is it sucks. You have to have a dead boss to capture the skill...

So far, I've seen these problems:
Monk Bosses, surrounded by tons of monsters = Living monsters, living boss, impossible to cap monk skills(this is instanced from an experience i had on volcano islands today)

Cinematics cuz into some skills...(maybe? people have tried to disprove it, but there's still too many instances to bug test)

And anyways, I like it better the old way. Its not like it's hard to know when a boss is dont casting a spell to capture. It usually has a gold outline, and you can see the name of it...and when it's done being cast, it fades or is taken up by another skill. If you cap then, you get the skill you want...real easy.

Oh, I haven't tried it with the new capture method yet. But I'd have thought they would have allowed capturing on live bosses still. Oh well. Do provide them with your feedback. I think having it with live and dead bosses would be ideal, but if they cannot have it both ways, then whoopy doo.

But I disagree that it's easy to capture for skills such as stances...you cannot tell when it's being used.

Btw, which boss are you referring to? The monk boss at Perdition Rock? I didn't have any trouble killing him with my Warrior...but maybe a monk primary might have trouble...did u try using scourge healing?

I captured my first elite skill today before I went to work. When I got back from work they had implimented the new signet of capture. Man is the new way nice. I just captured a few more elites tonight. This is a much better way of doing it.

Actually, I find this method is harder for me. Because some of the elite skills I want to get are from bosses that you don't normally kill while going through the mission, hence unless I can find a group that are willing to go off a bit and kill the boss for me (no way I could kill him by myself), I ended up not being able to capture that elite skill at all with this new update. I think it will be best by having you can either capture the skill from living bosses like the old way or you could choose to kill it and then choose the skill you wanted. To give people at least a chance of capturing elite skills from bosses that normal group don't touch.

Makes it impossible to capute Barrage off Markis in the iron mines mission now - as soon as he dies the cut scene starts then you're in the next town...

Then really the new system is fine... however they should add the old system as well so people have the option to capture elites/skills using different methods of their choosing.

Yeah im all for having both way of capturing. I don't mind this new way since it wont stop me from getting the skills i want but i also liked the old way.

And for barrage skill people are not able to get, The Abbandon Mouth missions is only 2 mission away from Iron Mine. And it's not like you will absolutly need it to get there.

Are you SURE you have to kill the boss to capture?

The "old" method of captuing, waiting for the boss to use the skill while he's alive, seems to be working just fine.
Unfortunately, the display bugs seem to still be there.
The boss doesnt show stances or preparations he is using.

No idea if it still works.. i didn't had any skill to capture since the update. I just went with the majority and assumed it didn't work other way. If it do then that's good.
If it works i wonder why people who are complaining about the change didn't even try to do it. I know i would have try to capture the usual way first... At least before complaining it destroy to so almighty challenge that capturing a skill is.

I was curious so I logged in and as of 12:48 EST the only way to capture skills now is if the Boss is dead. If you click on the signet any other time, you will get a message

"No corpses of a boss in range"

I hope they update this and allow for both "ways" of capturing.
